Curious trends: seeming to never go a day anymore without spotting someone on the L train reading Nathaniel West’s Miss Lonelyhearts/Day of the Locust and then wondering if it wasn’t recently name-checked on an episode of “This American Life”.
Moral equivocations: being pretty sure the guy on the G train wearing a NY Rangers letterman jacket and rocking out in his comically over-sized headphones is almost definitely a crazy person but feeling like you can be forgiven the same indiscretion because you’re better dressed.
Happy coincidences: exiting the N/R at Prince St. at precisely the moment when Stephen Malkmus is all up in your headphones singing “over the turnstiles and out into traffic.”
