Elevator pitch: Well-off urban twenty-somethings and angsty tweens with livejournals buy the ever-living shit out of Moleskines, but only a handful of them have yet to write anything even remotely intelligent in one of these fashionable, top-dollar Italian notebooks. With 4.5 million units sold in 2005 and over 10 million produced in 2009 this is not only a fast-growing market, but the forerunner of an emerging market of untold millions of Moleskine users dreading that day when some uninvited interloper cracks open their notebooks only to discover four shitty lines of attempted sprung rhythm written one afternoon in the local coffee shop after a piss-poor reading of Gerard Manley Hopkins.

Product description: The prepared foods of personal notebooks.

Business plan: Offer a full line of Moleskine products at a hefty markup, prompting the customer at the time of sale to submit a digital handwritten writing sample along with a brief catalog of purported literary interests. In three to five business days, thanks to the Autopen and the Markov chain, the customer will receive his brand new Moleskine fully annotated with pseudo-intellectual insights into all those texts he falsely claims to have read.

Estimated market cap: $$$ BILLIONS $$$
